Conference Meals

Fall River teachers hold parent/teacher conferences twice each year, meeting with every student’s family. This is an important way for parents and teachers to work together, but it makes for some long days. Teachers begin their day at 8:00 in the morning, and on conference days they don’t go home until 8:00 at night.

We try to at least not send them home hungry. The Fall River PTO provides meals for all of the six conference nights every year (three each in the fall and spring).

Each total meal should be enough to feed about 40 people, counting teachers and staff in the building. But often we make a meal of many small dishes.

Home Cookin’

Nothing beats delicious, fresh, homemade dishes. Generous parents can prepare a favorite dish to bring in. Make a little of something, or go nuts and make enough for all 40 teachers.  We provide the menu theme and some suggestions of what to bring.  Sign ups can be found under Volunteer Opportunities starting a couple of weeks before conferences are held.

Donations

Many area restaurants generously donate food for our teachers. Sometimes this is little (one serving of soup), and sometimes they’ll offer an entire meal. Other restaurants have offered discounts for us.

Catering

When all else fails, we do allocate some of our annual budget for conference meal catering. We certainly can’t cater every evening, but it’s nice to simplify an evening or two by just ordering out.
